Holland and Italy win their games and go through

World Champions Italy thought it would be damn nice to maybe wake up a little. They finally won their first game at the tournament, against France, another disappointing team for the EURO 2008. The French roosters finished last in the “group of death” , Romania getting third place although Holland hade some fun with them and won 2-0 with a team of substitutes. Italy will face Spain in the quarterfinals, while Holland’s rival isn’t quite known yet, but many say it’s gonna be Sewden. These are the highlights of the two games :

Greece - Sweden 0-2 | VIDEO

The European champions have been defeated in their first match by Sweden 2-0 and are now in danger of missing the quarterfinals this year. Greece didn’t look at all like the team that won the trophy 4 years ago, and Sweden knew this chance shouldn’t be missed. Scoring twice in the second half, they are now favorites along with Spain for qualifying from this group. These are the highlights :

Portugal - Turkey 2-0 | VIDEO

Portugal defeated 2-0 Turkey in the second game of the day. After a first half that ended 0-0, the Euro 2004 finalists made sure the 3 points were in the bag, with the second goal comming in the last seconds. Portugal is now leader in Group A, being favorite to keeping this place, and even to reach the final. The goals here :

 

Zenit win the UEFA Cup ! | VIDEO

Zenit St. Petersburg is the new winner of the UEFA Cup. The Russians won the final against Glasgow Rangers 2-0 tonight and brought the cup back to Russia after 3 years. With the best striker of the competition suspended, the goals didn’t come as many as in theeir previous games, but Denisov 77′ and Zyrianov in the last minute made the difference in a game that was a bit one-sided. Rangers was the team with the best defence this year but the ambition of the Russians was too much for them . Congratulations Zenit !
