Macedonia played very well and deserved the win. They took the lead after Ilco Naumoski slotted past Craig Gordon. Scotland consistently struggled to get a foothold in the game and it would have been two for the hosts if Gary Caldwell had not made a crucial goal-saving tackle at the end of the half.
In the last 20 minutes. Macedonia finished their stamina and Scotland dominated the match.
In the 71st minute Scotland had what was their best opportunity of the match. After a solid period of pressure Miller and McFadden were both crowded out during a goalmouth scramble before McFadden seemed to be unfairly brought down by Milosevski for a penalty, but referee Kralovec said no. Miller then headed wide from a Robson corner.
Substitute Kris Commons then had a shot well saved from a tight angle as the Scots desperately pressed for an equaliser. The visitors continued to press but only Commons’ fellow sub Shaun Maloney was able to threaten Milosevski’s goal with two efforts in the remainder of the game.
